Drink the Juice Anna Mae!

Confessions of a Weird Mom #4:

Naturally every mother worries about their children's health and well-being. My daughter's pediatrician always puts emphasis on getting plenty of fluids. Long story short, I felt like my daughter wasn't getting enough fluids in her diet. After failed attempts of trying to get my daughter to drink more I became very frustrated. In the midst of my frustration I yelled "DRINK THE JUICE ANNA MAE!"

Why I called my daughter "Anna Mae", I don't know, but it was only fitting. My frustration was deep rooted only because I didn't want my child getting dehydrated or sick. In my defense, I felt like making a Tina Turner reference and being aggressive would actually make my child want to drink her juice. Wrong! Apparently children don't care about Ike Turner impersonations.

For whatever reason I say strange things to my daughter. I'm not sure, but I think making Tina Turner references definitely fit the bill. If only people knew half the things my daughter inspires me to say.

My Super Glue Baby

You know how people say "I'm sticking to my family like glue" or "our bond is stronger than glue", stuff like that? Well, I took a different approach to the whole glue comparison.

My daughter is my glue. She's not just any regular glue, she's my super glue. Let me explain something about super glue. Super glue is very convenient and is a must have around the house. You'll never know when you'll need it. Besides, the stuff works wonders and is very strong. I LOVE IT!

On the flip side, super glue can be a pain. I once got some on my hands and it didn't come off for about 2 weeks. For the same reason super glue is amazing it's also bad. Here's where I'm going with this. Being a mother is so rewarding and the best thing ever, but it can also be very exhausting.

Like super glue motherhood has it's ups and downs. Loving your child so much can actually be very draining which is the downfall. You constantly worry about your child's health, well-being, developmental process and a load of other things. Loving your child to the fullest extent is very overwhelming, but awesome!

Leave it to the #WeirdMom to compare her child to super glue. This is what happens when you're laying in bed trying to remove super glue from your finger nails. Admit it, it's a pretty good analogy!

I Treat My Child Like A Dog!

Confessions of a Weird Mom #3:

Little by little I'm starting to notice the similarities in the way I treat my daughter verses the way other people treat their dogs. It wasn't until considering getting a leash for my child before taking complete notice.

My daughter is growing fast and reaching all kinds of developmental milestones. Whenever she reaches a new milestone I feel the need to reward her. Apparently saying "good girl" and giving your child a treat is looked down upon. Oh, don't even think about rubbing your child's belly. To top things off, I accidentally played fetch with my daughter.

It just so happens my daughter was playing with a ball and lost control of the ball. The ball then came in the area I was in so I picked it up and threw it back in my daughter's direction. The situation got weird once my daughter brought the ball back to me just for me to throw it again. Just like that, we're playing fetch.

I won't mention the countless times I've whistled and clapped at my daughter. By the way, I still want that leash!

Creating A Drawing Table

Here's a project you and your child of any age can have fun with!

I got the idea of creating a drawing table because I wanted to cut down on the amount of paper my 1 year old was using. This is a cool project because your child can keep it forever and it serves as a memorabilia. This project can also work as more than just a drawing table. You can do a ton of creative things with it!

Here's what you'll need:

- An old side table (I'm using the LACK side table from Ikea $9.99)
- White gesso (used to coat surfaces and used as a base for artwork)
- Acrylic paint (to decorate the border of the table)

How to create a drawing table:

- Make sure the surface of your side table of choice is clean
- After cleaning the table give it about half an hour to completely dry
- Apply an even coat of white gesso to the table top with a sponge or bristle paint brush
- Let the 1st coat of gesso dry for about 2 hours
- Apply a second, even coat of gesso to the table top for coverage
- Allow the entire table to dry overnight
- Optional: Add a decorative border to the table for flair
- After the border is dry you and your child can enjoy the new table!

Playing Soccer With A Dirty Diaper!?

Of course no one intentionally plays soccer with a dirty diaper, I think. I'll attempt to explain how this was an honest accident. Here goes nothing . . .

As a mother of an almost 2 year old I have changed thousands of diapers and I'm still not used to the smell. That being said, my beautiful, amazing daughter had a huge surprise for me in her diaper. I go to change her and the smell is unbearable. What on earth did she eat? I'm cleaning her up and decide to wrap the dirty diaper very carefully. While working with her I throw the dirty diaper on the floor to attend to it later once the baby is settled. The baby is good to go now, but I don't want to pick up the dirty diaper off the floor until I'm at least closer to the trash can. That way I wouldn't have to smell it as much. My logic was if it's on the ground it's further away from my nose. It didn't end there.

So now the only logical thing to do is kick the dirty diaper all the way to the trash can, right? As I made the first "kick" I'd noticed that the diaper had some weight to it. Here's where I decide to test out my eye/foot coordination. Why not make a game out of something as simple as throwing away trash? Before you know it I'm playing soccer with a dirty diaper.

The diaper won!

I Save Bloody Band-Aids

Confessions of a Weird Mom #2:

To my surprise saving bloody bandages isn't normal. This became news to me one day as I was removing the bandages off of my child after a routine doctor's appointment. She had just received 4 shots. I was very careful while removing them. As soon as they were all removed I immediately put them in a safe place because I knew I would be using them at a later date. Asia's father then looks at me in pure disgust and asks "what are you doing?". I reply "I'm saving bloody band-aids" and looked at Asia's father as if he was out of the loop. It's all about art!

I'm an artistic mother who loves to scrapbook. What's cooler than your child seeing their bandages from when they received their shots as babies? To put the icing on the cake, I made sure I put the bandages in the scrapbook bloody side up. It makes it more dramatic!? I for one can appreciate good scrapbooks and bloody bandages.

I Tried Hypnotizing The Baby!

Confessions of a Weird Mom #1:

I honestly thought it would be a good idea to try and hypnotize my child. Even worse, I thought it would actually work.

My child is notorious for fighting sleep. All I wanted was for her to take a small nap. To encourage this nap I decided to hold my child and rock her back and forth. I noticed her eyes were getting heavy and it appeared as if she was getting dizzy. The rocking seemed to work.

Here's where I thought it would be a good idea to take the rocking to the next level to speed things along. I really wanted her to take a nap! I began to rock her forcefully. While rocking her I started whispering in her ear "you're getting sleepy, very very sleepy". I continued this for about 5 minutes and she finally went to sleep. I felt guilty as if I had just drugged my child. To end things off she ended up waking up 10 minutes later.

We All Have Weird "Mom" Moments, Rights?

Welcome! I'm inspired to blog and my daughter (born in 2012) is the reason why. I'm a first time parent, so everything is new to me even though my child is almost 2 years of age.

It seems like the cuter the baby the more weird you get. I caught myself staring at my baby while she was sleep. In doing that I decided I wanted to smell her breath. Mind you, this isn't an infant that has the sweet smelling breath. This is a full-blown toddler with "adult" morning breath, but that didn't stop me.

I typically catch myself doing small, but weird things when I get around my baby. That's why I decided to share some of the things my baby inspires me to do. Hopefully, someone will be able to relate to me and our weird can become the new "normal". Everyone knows being normal isn't normal.
