Here's a project you and your child of any age can have fun with!
I got the idea of creating a drawing table because I wanted to cut down on the amount of paper my 1 year old was using. This is a cool project because your child can keep it forever and it serves as a memorabilia. This project can also work as more than just a drawing table. You can do a ton of creative things with it!
Here's what you'll need:
- An old side table (I'm using the LACK side table from Ikea $9.99)
- White gesso (used to coat surfaces and used as a base for artwork)
- Acrylic paint (to decorate the border of the table)
How to create a drawing table:
- Make sure the surface of your side table of choice is clean
- After cleaning the table give it about half an hour to completely dry
- Apply an even coat of white gesso to the table top with a sponge or bristle paint brush
- Let the 1st coat of gesso dry for about 2 hours
- Apply a second, even coat of gesso to the table top for coverage
- Allow the entire table to dry overnight
- Optional: Add a decorative border to the table for flair
- After the border is dry you and your child can enjoy the new table!
